LAMPEDUSA ART GALLERY

Blue Bab Hotel is happy to present, in these pages devoted to the island of Lampedusa, what it considers to be the reference point for the study and appreciation of history and culture of Lampedusa:the Lampedusa art gallery of Nino Taranto.

The exhibition shows a selection of fine art prints, panoramic photos, reproductions of antique jewelry and a whole section devoted to the history of the island, the old maps from old photographs and documentaries of the twentieth century, collected in 30 years of research and studies memories of a passionate student of Lampedusa. One of the main objectives of the Gallery is just that more research on the history and traditions of the island and at the same time to take action leading to the dissemination of awareness of their historical and cultural identity. The "A Brief History of Lampedusa" written by the owner, summarizes the main stages of a story full of unexpected surprises.

There were many initiatives of the Gallery: the opening of the Archaeological Museum was presented with a photo exhibit and documentary entitled "Lampedusa: The charm of yesteryear and a subsequent exhibition, in collaboration with Anna and Fabio Sardone Giovanetti," The mystery of stone circles "ancient archeological findings scattered throughout the island.

The Gallery has also supervised the arrival and placement in the Archaeological Museum of the statue of Athena found at Lampedusa at the end of '800 and has promoted and supervised the construction of a permanent exhibition of contemporary art by bringing together paintings by leading artists, reached Lampedusa at various prizes in painting held in the 90s.

Popular initiative was the organization of a concert of classical music with the German violinist Johannes Bruning and pianist in the evocative setting of the Hotel Costa Peppe seahorses.

There are still many events planned: a photo exhibition on "Dammusi, charming old rural buildings, now abandoned, but evidence of a past linked to agricultural activity, an exhibition on the last war with the military fortifications presentation of the book of Gen. Absence "The epic of our military in the far corner of Italy" will soon be available also playing an ancient coin that is coined in Lampedusa in Greek and also demonstrates that the 'commercial importance of "Lopadusa" in antiquity.

"Lampedusa Art Gallery" is proposed to become a point of reference for those who are passionate about history, culture and traditions of Lampedusa and wants to offer concrete support to any initiative that may contribute to the cultural renaissance of the island.
